D.C. United Audi Field

A State-of-the-Art Green Stadium

The Challenge

D.C. United, Major League Soccer’s most decorated franchise, and DC PACE, a clean energy financing program of the DistrictGovernment’s Department of Energy & Environment, have integrated$25 million of DC PACE financing for the 20,000 seat Audi Field,D.C.’s first soccer specific stadium opening in 2018.

D.C. United wanted to extend their commitment to environmental sustainability at Audi Field and DC PACE enabled the team to put together a creative financial package by enhancing money-saving green measures, including water, stormwater, energy efficiency, and solar energy systems. DC PACE unlocked additional funds to green the stadium to LEED Gold standards, incorporating integrated solar, LED field lighting, and aggressive stormwater management measures. As of June 2017, the project marks the nation’s largestPACE financing by a single lender, and the first use of PACE for a stadium project.

The Solution

The state-of-the-art urban facility has a capacity of 20,000 fans and will feature 31 luxury suites, a bike valet, and 500,000 total square feet of mixed-use retail and residential space on site, making it a 365-day destination for fans and D.C. residents alike.
